HPU-2 | Compact Hydraulic Tensioning Pump
Redesigning an outdated industrial tool to make the profession more safe and attractive
WHY?
This project was a collaboration between Umeå institute of Design and Atlas Copco Industrial Tools. The aim was to find new solutions for their heavy bolting sector which they at the time just acquired.
OUTCOME
The project resulted in a completely redesigned hydraulic tensioning pump for the heavy bolting industry. It is lightweight, easy to carry and supports multiple tools making it more efficient than today’s solutions.
Atlas Copco decided not only to buy the final model but also protect the design globally.
HPU-2 | This project was a collaboration between Umeå Institute of Design and Atlas Copco. The project was later bought by Atlas Copco Industrial Technique and the design was later protected with a Global Design Protection
