reMarkable 2024
Paper Pro | The ultimate paper tablet
The reMarkable Paper Pro is the ultimate paper tablet, featuring a color display and front light. At just 5.1 mm thick, it is remarkably thin. Being the lead designer on a groundbreaking project like this gave me insight into how complex a device truly is.
Our goal was to design a high-end, premium product with very little wiggle room. We achieved this through carefully selected, toned-down CMF, extremely tight tolerances in gaps and steps, tactile interactions, and world-class magnetic snap-on accessories.
Design intention — no distractions, toned down
We wanted the device to feel fit for work. It should not appear soft, playful, or naïve. Instead, we gave it a precise form language with sharp detailing to communicate the company’s focus on quality and precision.
The two grooves along the side mimic a stack of paper, while the front features a nearly perfectly matched bezel that creates the impression of a single sheet of paper. In combination with our own patented textured glass surface, which sounds and feels exactly like paper, it becomes a magical product that truly needs to be experienced in person.
The device is the result of a calm technology vision, allowing users to decide how they want to express themselves through their choice of folio. We designed one single-threaded Basic Book Folio, three multi-threaded fabric folios, and two leather folios.
Note: I was involved but not leading the design development of the two markers, and folios.
